Pittsford, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse team dropped an 11-6 contest at St. John Fisher College on Saturday afternoon at Growney Stadium. With the loss, Oswego drops to 3-2 on the year while the Cardinals improve to the same mark.
Fisher jumped out to a 4-0 lead that Oswego was able to cut into before the break. The Lakers outscored the Cardinals 3-1 in the final 16:03, including shutting them out in the second quarter, heading to the break.
Oswego was unable to maintain its momentum coming out of halftime, as Fisher was able to score the third quarters first three goals to gain an 8-3 advantage.
The Hoose brothers,
Cody Hoose and
Brady Hoose, combined for four points on the day. Cody played the role of distributor, finishing with two assists while younger sibling Brady found the back of the net twice. The two connected for the team's final goal.
Also finishing with two goals on the day was
Nick Giampaolo. The Lakers were led by
Brian Murphy in 50/50 situations, as he collected a team-high four ground balls.
Wyatt Russo took the loss between the pipes, despite turning away 11 Cardinal attempts.
Oswego held the advantage or were even on several team statistics, having a better clear percentage than Fisher (85.7%) and causing more turnovers (5-4). The two teams were tied on faceoffs (10-for-20 each) and ground balls (21).
The Lakers will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Tuesday when they host Elmira College in their home-opener.
