Lakers Host Cortland for Youth Night

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The No. 5/5 Oswego State men's ice hockey team (11-3-1 overall, 6-0-1 SUNYAC) will host the Cortland Red Dragons (7-9 Overall, 3-6 SUNYAC) at 7 p.m. on Friday night in the Marano Campus Center Arena.
 
It is Youth Night for the Lakers, with complimentary youth tickets (17 and under) available with purchase of an adult tickets by phoning the box office 315-312-3073 or in person at the Marano Center Box Office windows. A maximum of four complimentary youth tickets per family order. SUNY policy requires children under the age of 17 who attend programs on the SUNY Oswego campus must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the event/program
 
Walk up hours at the Marano Center Box Office for the week of January 13 - 19:
 
Tuesday, January 14, 11:30am - 4 pm
Wednesday, January 15, 11:30am - 4pm
Thursday, January 16, 11:30 am - 8:45 pm
Friday, January 19, 5 p.m. until final intermission
 
The Blueline Club will be holding a winter clothing drive at Friday's game. They will collect coats, hoodies, winter hats and gloves during that evening and ask that fans please wash items before donating, if possible. Bins to collect the items will be located just inside the main entrance to the arena.
 
Oswego defeated the Red Dragons on Nov. 13 in Cortland by a score of 3-1. A trio of sophomores, Mitch Emerson, Jody Sullivan and Michael Gillespie, scored the goals for Oswego, while fellow sophomore David Richer stopped 18 of 19 shots for the win in net.
 
The Lakers have won three-consecutive games against Cortland, outscoring them 14-5 in that span. When these two teams met in Oswego on Jan. 27 of last year, the Lakers won 7-3 with four current members of the team – David Ferreira (2), Josh Zizek, Kristoffer Brun and Joey Scorpio – scoring goals.
 
This will be the first conference game for Oswego in 2018, who currently sit tied for first in the SUNYAC with 13 points, and are the only team in the SUNYAC to have not lost a conference game yet this season.
 
The Lakers are near the top in nearly every statistical category in the league, as they sit second in goals allowed per game (1.92) and save percentage (.917), while being third in goals per game (3.93), power-play percentage (23.8) and penalty-kill percentage (87.0)
 
Sophomore forward Josh Zizek leads the team in goals (10), assists (11) and totals points (21), while his five power-play goals are tied for 11th in Division III.
 
Of all goaltenders in Division III who have played nine games or more, sophomore David Richer is currently 20th in the nation in save percentage (.927%) and 10th in goals allowed per game (1.77).
