OSWEGO, N.Y. — SUNY Oswego Athletics proudly welcomed four new inductees into its prestigious Hall of Fame during a ceremony held Saturday, October 4, in the Sheldon Ballroom. The 2025 Hall of Fame class — William T. Orlando, Kellie (Winters) McCaffery, Bridget Smith, and the 1965 men's wrestling team — was honored for their remarkable contributions to Laker athletics and lasting impact on the university's proud sports tradition.
William T. Orlando earned his place in the Hall of Fame for his exceptional career in cross-country and track and field. A two-time NCAA Championship qualifier, Orlando's consistency, work ethic, and leadership helped elevate Oswego's distance programs. Among his many accomplishments, he finished in the top 50 at the 1976 NCAA National Championships and played a key role on the 1973 team that placed 14th nationally.
Kellie (Winters) McCaffery was recognized as one of Oswego's all-time greats in the pool. A seven-time All-American honorable mention, McCaffery's standout performances in both individual and relay events showcased her versatility and dedication. Her achievements in 2002 and 2003 helped set new standards for the women's swimming and diving program.
Bridget Smith made her mark as one of the most accomplished goaltenders in Oswego women's ice hockey history. The program's first-ever AHCA First Team All-American in 2015, Smith finished her career with program records in wins (35), shutouts (13), and saves (1,501). Her dominance in net helped define a new era of success for Laker women's hockey.
The 1965 men's wrestling team was celebrated for one of the most dominant seasons in Oswego history. Finishing with an outstanding 11-1 record, the Lakers captured the SUNYAC Championship and outscored opponents 316-90. With seven individual conference champions and three NCAA qualifiers — including three-time national champion Harry Furrer — the team's depth and dominance remain unmatched in program lore.
The evening ceremony brought together alumni, coaches, family, and friends in celebration of these remarkable achievements and the legacy each inductee leaves behind.
