OSWEGO, NY – The Empire 8 has announced their weekly awards and the Lakers swept the category of men's tennis.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Matthew Mannara, SUNY Oswego, Sr., Syracuse, NY/West Genesee
Mannara was named 2025 Empire 8 Men's Tennis Championship Most Outstanding Player after leading the Lakers to their first Empire 8 Championship in their first season as a league member. He went 3-0 at second singles and teamed with
Anthony Marcano to win all three of their doubles matches in the Empire 8 Championship Tournament. Mannara defeated Nolan Zach of Houghton, 6-0, 6-3 on Tuesday in the opening round of the E8 Tournament. He earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Seb Soto of Thomas College in the E8 Semifinals on Friday and defeated Max Funiciello of Nazareth, 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 in the title match for Oswego Saturday in which the Lakers earned a 5-1 win.
DOUBLES TEAM OF THE WEEK – Matthew Mannara, SUNY Oswego, Sr., Syracuse, NY/West Genesee

The duo of Mannara and Marcano won all three of their doubles matches this past week to lift the Lakers to the 2025 Empire 8 Men's Tennis Championship. The duo opened the week with an 8-4 win at first doubles over Nolan Zach and Graham Cook of Houghton, as the Lakers earned a 6-1 in the opening round. Mannara and Marcano recorded an 8-2 win over Gabriel McPhail and Seb Soto of Thomas College in the E8 Semifinal match, as Oswego rolled to a 7-2 win. In the title match, Mannara and Marcano found themselves down 4-0 to Max Funiciello and Griffin Bond before roaring back to earn a key 8-6 win and shift the momentum of the match, as Oswego eventually pulled out a 5-1 victory.
Men's Tennis will head to Tufts University where they will take on Amherst College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday May 9
th.
