SUNY Oswego Names Mark Baker Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Tennis

Oswego, NY - SUNY Oswego has announced the hiring of Mark Baker as the Lakers' new head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs.

Baker arrives in Oswego after serving as a graduate assistant tennis coach at Houghton University, where he supported recruiting efforts, practice planning, and match-day strategy while helping guide the program. Known for his ability to connect with student-athletes, Baker emphasized academic accountability alongside competitive growth.

"Mark brings a great amount of energy, professionalism, and passion for the sport of tennis," said Wendy McManus, Assistant Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at SUNY Oswego. "He has a strong understanding of player development and team culture, and his experiences at the collegiate level make him an excellent fit to lead both our men's and women's tennis programs. We are excited to see him build meaningful relationships with our student-athletes and continue to elevate Lakers tennis."

In addition to his collegiate background, Baker brings extensive experience from the junior and instructional ranks. He has served as a tennis instructor at Atlantic Beach Tennis Center and Long Beach Tennis Center, developing players of all ages and skill levels, and currently coaches junior varsity tennis at Friends Academy.

"I am looking forward to the opportunity presented and to making a positive lasting impression on the Oswego tennis program. I am very happy to be here in this community working with wonderful individuals." Mark Baker.

Baker earned his Master of Business Administration in May 2025 from Houghton University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Farmingdale State College. He is also a USTA Safe Play-approved coach and CPR/AED certified.
