Brian Sortino, the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete, is a multiple time All-American, including a first team member as a senior as well as a national player of the year finalist. The national coaches association recognized him as a three-time First Team All-Region performer. Conference coaches did the same, naming Sortino to the All-SUNYAC First Team each of his final three seasons, including Player of the Year honors in his final campaign. A two-time Most Valuable Player of the SUNYAC Championship, he led the Lakers to three-straight conference championship games, winning two titles to advance to the NCAA Championship while also helping Oswego win a regular-season crown as a senior. Sortino netted 1,991 points over his Oswego career, good for the second-most in program history, trailing only Ron Davis’ record 2,128 points. In his final season, Sortino ranked in the top 30 nationally for points per game (21.8), total points (611), total minutes (63,300), minutes per game (37.7) and three-point field-goals made (81). The Fairport, N.Y. native also holds several program single-game, individual season and individual career records.
The Outstanding Senior Athlete awards take into account the seniors' entire career at Oswego and is based solely on their individual athletic achievements while wearing a Laker uniform.
