RIT trips up Lakers 5-3

RIT bounced back to earn a split in the home-and-home series with the Oswego State hockey team on Saturday, Jan. 15, as the Tigers skated away with a 5-3 victory at Romney Field House.

The loss put the ninth-ranked Lakers at 11-3-3, while eighth-ranked RIT moved to 8-5-1. Oswego State won the opening game of the series on Friday in Rochester by the score of 5-2.

The Tigers never trailed as they scored just 32 seconds into the game on a Roberto Orofiamma (Woodbridge) power-play goal.

The Lakers got the goal back as Andy Rozak (Mississauga, ONT) scored on a power play with assists from Jocelyn Dubord (LaChenaie, QUE) and Don Patrick.

RIT went on to add another goal in the first to carry a 2-1 advantage into the first intermission.

In the second, Oswego State knotted the game at a pair as Dubord knocked in his own rebound just 1:05 into the new period.

The Tigers struck twice within a span of 1:30 to make it a 4-2 game late in the second. The Lakers got one of those goal back at the 17:07 mark as Dubord netted his second of the game. RIT scored the lone goal of the third to make the final 5-3.

Oswego State goalie Brett Leonhardt (Waterloo, ONT) made 27 saves as he suffered his first career loss. He began his career 8-0-2.

In goal for RIT, George Eliopoulus (Markham, ONT) finished with 35 saves.

The Lakers are right back in action Tuesday, Jan. 18, hosting Hamilton College at 7 p.m.
