Oswego State hockey edges Wentworth

The Oswego State hockey team built a four-goal lead and held on for a 4-3 win over Wentworth on Friday at Romney Field House in Oswego.

C.J. Thompson scored twice for the Lakers. Both of his goals came early in the third period to give the Lakers a 4-0 lead. Wentworth rallied to score the final three goals of the game but came up short in the non-league game.

Wentworth goaltender Alan Keeso made 49 saves and the Leopards held Oswego State to just one power-play goal in 10 opportunities.

Ryan Ellis opened the scoring for the Lakers with 56 seconds remaining in the first period, and Peter Magagna converted a give-and-go from Brendan McLaughlin in the second period.

Thompson's goals extended the lead before Wentworth made a comeback bid. Victor Pacella and Vince Guiducci scored 1:53 apart to get the Leopards back in the game. Eric Kobisky then scored a power-play goal with 5:43 left, but Oswego State held the lead for the rest of the way and picked up its seventh consecutive victory.

Freshman Chris Hyk made 19 saves in his first career start and earned the win in goal.

Ryan Woodward entered the night as the nation's leading scorer and recorded an assist, extending his point-scoring streak to 10 games.

Oswego State, ranked seventh in the nation, is now 8-2-0 on the season. The Lakers host Curry College on Saturday at 7 p.m. Wentworth is 3-2-0 on the year.
