RIT's Zach Bednarz (Webster) scored 1:43 into overtime to lift the Tigers to a 9-8 come-from-behind win over the Oswego State men's lacrosse team on Saturday, April 9, at the South Athletic Complex.
The Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter scoring three straight goals to erase a deficit and claim an 8-7 lead. The Lakers then forced overtime with four seconds remaining as Mike Strohm (Waterloo) scored on a nice feed from Steve Tronovitch (Binghamton).
In overtime, Oswego State won the face-off, but once the Tigers gained possession Bednarz netted his lone goal of the game to lift RIT to the win.
The loss dropped the Lakers to 2-6 on the second while the Tigers climbed to 5-4.
The hosts got off to a fast start scoring the only three goals in the first quarter. Tronovitch scored two of those goals with Adam Phelps (Jordan) netting the other.
RIT took control in the second outscoring the Lakers 4-1 as the teams went into the half deadlocked at four.
The teams traded goals in the third setting up the exciting finish.
Tronovitch led the Lakers with three goals and an assist while Phelps scored twice and set up two other.
For RIT, Colin Jesien (Cambridge, MD) scored four goals and David Thering (Fairport) directed the attack with a game-high four assists.
In goal for Oswego State, Al Simeone (Binghamton) finished with 19 saves.
Brad Conlon (Ottawa, ONT) earned the win in goal for RIT making a pair of saves, while Ryan Foley (Guelph, ONT) played the first half and finished with five saves.
The Lakers return to SUNY Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, April 13, traveling to nationally-ranked Cortland in a 4 p.m. start.
