The Oswego State women's ice hockey team led Elmira for more than half the game on Sunday, before eventually losing 6-2.
The Lakers went in front just 4:05 into the game when Karly Armstong's shot from behind the net richocheted into the cage. Jessica Zenzel assisted, as it was Armstrong's first collegiate goal.
Oswego State doubled its lead early in the second period on a power-play goal by Tiffany Duquette. Shea Miller and Kendra Lemire assisted.
Elmira's Kayla Coady scored two power-play goals late in the second period to even the score, and the teams were tied 2-2 after two periods.
The Soaring Eagles power play continued to be effective, scoring twice more in the third period. Tiffany Hart put Elmira in front just 40 seconds into the third, and Jamie Kivi's point shot worked its way through traffic to give Elmira a 4-2 lead with 7:43 left to play.
Two late goals from Lauryn DePaul and Lyndsay Laxton provided the final score.
Laker goalie Hilary Hitchman had 48 saves, while Elmira's Allison Cubberley made 17 stops.
Oswego State is now 5-6-1 and 1-5-1 in ECAC Women's West play. The Soaring Eagles, ranked fifth nationally, are 9-2-1 overall and 6-0-0 in the ECAC Women's West.
