Lakers stay undefeated, advance to championship

The Oswego State men's ice hockey team, ranked second nationally, defeated New England College 5-2 in the second semifinal of the Pathfinder Bank Oswego Hockey Classic on Friday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena in Oswego. The Lakers will play against Elmira in Saturday's championship game at 7 p.m.

Junior forward C.J. Thompson scored three goals for the second straight game to lead the Lakers to the win. Garren Reisweber and Brendan McLaughlin also scored for Oswego State. Thompson now has 11 goals on the year, and is the fourth Oswego State player to reach double digits in scoring already this year.

Laker goalie Ryan Scott made 23 saves, and New England College goalie Matthew Lyon had 22 stops.

Oswego State was 2-for-3 on the power play in a game that saw just six minor penalties assessed against the teams. New England College was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

Paul Ruta and Mickey Serra scored for the Pilgrims, who fell to 4-4-0 on the season and will face St. Thomas in the consolation game at 4 p.m.

The Lakers are 12-0-3 on the year.
