The Oswego State men's ice hockey team lost its first game of the season on Tuesday, losing 5-2 to Utica at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
The host Pioneers scored a pair of power-play goals in the first period, and added an even-strength goal with 3:20 remaining in the period to take a 3-0 lead after the first period.
The Lakers answered early in the second, as Peter Magagna banged home a rebound of a Ryan Ellis shot to make the score 3-1.
Utica added one goal in the second period and another in the third to build a 5-1 lead. Laker freshman Brad Dormiedy scored a short-handed goal with 1:06 left to play to account for the final score.
Oswego State goalie Ryan Scott made 26 saves, and Utica's Adam Dekker had 25.
The Lakers, ranked second in this week's USCHO.com Division III Men's Poll, are now 14-1-3 on the year. The 17-game unbeaten streak was the longest such streak to start a season in the program's history.
Oswego State has seven regular-season games remaining, all against SUNYAC opponents, beginning this weekend. Brockport visits the Campus Center Ice Arena on Friday and Geneseo visits on Saturday. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
