Host Oswego State used power play scoring from senior defensemen Kyle McCutcheon (Caledon East, ONT) and Mark Lozzi (Richmond Hill, ONT), while the Lakers penalty killing unit turned away five power play attempts from Hamilton en route to a 2-1 triumph in a non-conference contest at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
Oswego (11-5-1), ranked tenth in the latest US College Hockey Online Division III coaches poll, outshot the Continentals (4-3-1) 30-26, which included a 16-7 advantage in the third period.
Hamilton scored the game's opening goal at the 4:04 mark of the second period when junior forward Harry Biggs set up junior linemate Vaclav Tomicek with an even strength goal. Oswego tied the game in the closing seconds of the period when McCutcheon put a pass from sophomore Chris Laganiere (Owego) past Hamilton goalie Scott Hefferman with 29 seconds remaining.
Lozzi scored the game winner for the Lakers with his tenth goal of the year 3:35 into the third period, with Laganiere and Hank Boxmeer (Orange, CA) picking up assists. Oswego finished 2-for-7 on the power play on the night.
Junior goalkeeper Tim Potter (Bakersfield, CA), picked up his third victory in as many starts for the Lakers, turning away 25 shots, while Heffernan finished with 28 saves.
