Lakers solidify second place in SUNYAC standings with 5-0 shutout at Geneseo

Senior defenseman Mark Lozzi (Richmond Hill, ONT) registered a three-point night on two goals and an assists, and junior goaltender Tim Potter (Bakersfield, CA) stopped all 26 shots faced in posting his second shutout of the season as Oswego State avenged an early-season defeat to SUNY Geneseo with a 5-0 shutout victory in SUNYAC men's hockey action on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Ira S. Wilson Arena in Geneseo. The win, the ninth straight for the Lakers (17-5-1, 11-2-1 SUNYAC), locked down second place in the conference standings and secured a semifinal home game in the SUNYAC Playoffs on Friday, Feb. 28 at the Campus Center Ice Arena.

Lozzi scored the games opening two goals, the first coming with 1:14 remaining in the first period and the second coming at the 13:57 mark of the second period. Senior Derrell Levy (Markham, ONT) registered assists on both Lozzi goals, with freshman Jared Anderson (Campbelford, ONT) also assisting on the first goal and senior Garren Reisweber (Williamsville) contributing an assist on the second.

Lozzi, who leads the team in goals with 15 and is third in scoring with 24 points, assisted on the Lakers' third goal in the second period, scored by Reisweber at the 17:13 mark. In the last three games, Lozzi has tallied five goals and has scored at least a point in eight of the last nine games of the current win streak.

Sophomore Joe Hall (Schaumburg, IL) and junior Neil Musselwhite (Burlington, ONT) wrapped up the scoring with goals at 6:15 and 10:16 of the third period for Oswego, who were outshot by the Blue Knights in the period (9-7) and for the game (26-25).

Potter, who takes over as the conference leader in save percentage (.938) and winning percentage (6-0-0) and is second in goals against average (1.67). has yet to lose a game since joining the team in late-December as a transfer from Clarkson University.

The Lakers will close out the 2008-09 regular season with back-to-back home games, hosting conference leader Plattsburgh State in the second annual "whiteout" game on Friday, Feb. 20 before facing SUNY Potsdam in the season finale the next night, where the team will honor its 13 seniors. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m., with the Plattsburgh game webcast live over the internet
