The Oswego State men's ice hockey team started 2010 with a 4-1 win over Connecticut College in the first round of the Pathfinder Bank/Oswego Classic on Saturday night. Justin Fox (Jr., Whitby, Ont.) tallied a goal and two assists to pace the Lakers, while goaltender Paul Beckwith stopped 19 shots. Oswego State, which improved to 14-1-0, will face Elmira College in the championship game on Sunday at 7 p.m. The Soaring Eagles handed the Lakers' their only loss of the season in 2-1 decision on October 24. The Camels of Connecticut College, which fell to 1-8-0, will face the Milwaukee School of Engineering at 4 p.m.

After a scoreless first period, Connecticut College took a 1-0 lead at 2:42 in the second period seconds after the Lakers killed off a penalty.  Joe Capuano recorded his second goal of the season when he flicked the puck past Oswego State netminder Paul Beckwith after receiving passes from Julien Boutet and Ryan Riffe.  Oswego State responded at the 6:38 mark when Justin Fox scored his tenth goal of the season on a power play after tap passes from Chris Laganiere (Jr., Owego, N.Y.) and Jon Whitelaw (Fr., Huntsville, N.Y.). Andrew Mather (So., Ottawa, Ont.) tallied the eventual game-winning goal as the Lakers created an odd-man rush after a Camel turnover at neutral ice.  Mather put away the puck that came off the sticks of Fox and Laganiere to give Oswego State a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

Chris Ayotte (Fr., Cornwall, Ont.) made it a two-goal game early in the third with his second goal of the season with assists being awarded to Kevin Huinink (Jr., Whitby, Ont.) and Owen Kelly (Jr., Plattsburgh, N.Y.).  The final goal of the game was scored midway through third on a delayed penalty as Tyler Leimbrock (Fr., Bolton, Ont.) flipped a pass top-shelf past Connecticut College goalie Greg Parker, who made 28 saves.  Fox and Huinink earned assists on the play.
