The Oswego State men's ice hockey team cooled off one of the hottest squads around Saturday night with a 4-2 win over host Morrisville.  Laker special teams played a pivotal role in the victory as Oswego State posted two power-play goals and a short-handed marker.  The Lakers played the majority of the third period short-handed due to penalties, but held the Mustangs to one power-play goal on ten chances.  Oswego State remained unbeaten at 9-0-0 overall and 6-0-0 in the SUNYAC, while Morrisville moved to 4-3-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the league.

Defenseman Tim Carr set the tone for the Laker special teams midway through the first period when Tyler Leimbrock found him for his first collegiate goal while Oswego State was short-handed at 7:34.  Just over a minute later, Paul Rodrigues found linemate Jon Whitelaw to give the Lakers a 2-0 advantage, which was how the first period ended.

Morrisville pulled to within one goal less than six minutes into the second period when Tyler Swan got a puck past Oswego State netminder Paul Beckwith.  However, Oswego State had an immediate answer when it capitalized 36 seconds into a Mustang holding penalty as Justin Fox scored his sixth goal of the season.  Assists were awarded to Ian Boots and Andrew Mather.

Early in the third period, the Lakers made Morrisville pay for another penalty when Hank Van Boxmeer netted his first goal of the year after receiving a pass from Whitelaw and Luke Moodie.  The goal proved to be extremely important as Oswego State spent nearly the last 16 minutes of the contest playing a man down due to penalties.  The Mustangs scored on a 5-on-3 situation late in the game as Swan posted his second goal of the contest.  However, the Lakers were able to hold on for the two-goal win.

Beckwith ended the games with 25 saves on 27 shots, while Morrisville goalie Caylin Relkoff finished with 35 stops, including 22 in the second period.

The Lakers face two road tests on December 3-4 when they travel to Fredonia and Geneseo.
