Hamilton notched three power play goals to help the Continentals defeat the Oswego State women's ice hockey team 5-2 on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Ice Arena. Abby Runyon and Stephanie Miguel led Hamilton with two goals each to help the Continentals improve to 9-8-3 overall. The Lakers, who fell to 7-13-1 on the season, will travel to Elmira for a weekend series starting on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Hamilton got its power play rolling on its first opportunity of the contest after Oswego State was whistled for a hooking penalty at 4:48 in the first period.  On the ensuing face-off, Abby Runyon scored on a rebound left in front of the net after a shot by Amy Allen from the blue line at 5:01, as the Continentals skated into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second period, Hamilton went on its third power play, in which Abby Runyon scored her second goal of the game after a scramble in front of the net at 10:44.  However, Jenna Kirkwood (Sr., Chilliwack, B.C.) cut the Continental lead in half when she skated up the left side of the rink, and took a wrist shot that found the back of the net on Becca Hazlett's blocker side with 4:03 left in the second stanza.  Both squads had skater advantages before the end of the frame, but were unable able to light up the scoreboard.

Hamilton regained a two-goal advantage at 7:13 in the third when Stephanie Miguel took a shot that went through Oswego State's Lana Peterson (Fr., Anchorage, Alaska) five-hole with the assist going to Meredith Bitterman.  Miguel added her second goal of the game four minutes later to give the Continentals their third power play and a 4-1 lead.

Alex Szypryt (Fr., Bridgewater, N.J.) tallied the Lakers' second goal of the game at 18:42 when she skated across the slot, and ripped her shot top-shelf.  Kathryn Sbrocchi (So., Mississauga, Ont.) earned an assist on the play.  Oswego State called a timeout after the score and pulled Peterson.  Hamilton's Christie Sharlow added an empty-net goal with two seconds left after receiving a pass from Katie Zimmerman to make the final score 5-2.

Lana Peterson finished the contest with 19 saves on 23 shots, while the Continentals' Becca Hazlett compiled 24 saves.
