Women's Ice Hockey Suffers 6-2 Setback At Plattsburgh

Third-ranked Plattsburgh tallied four power-play goals and a short-handed goal as the Cardinals defeated the Oswego State women's ice hockey team 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Stafford Ice Arena.  Mackenzie Lee accounted for both Laker goals as Oswego State fell to 9-8-3 on the season and 5-6-3 in the ECAC West standings.  Plattsburgh moved to 14-2-3 overall and 10-1-2 in the conference.

The Cardinals' power-play unit set the tone early with two goals in the first period of the sticks of Kara Buehler at 8:06 and Steph Moon at 14:57. Plattsburgh tallied another goal 40 seconds before the end of the frame when Teal Gove fed Erika Shaubel to give the Cardinals a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the locker room.
 
However, the Lakers started the second period with a renewed intensity resulting in Jillian Bergeron hitting Mackenzie Lee with a pass 58 seconds into the stanza. The score remained at 3-1 until Kylie Klassen scored an even-strength goal at 11:54. Shortly after the goal, Oswego State went on the power play and capitalized 14 seconds into the advantage when Lee scored her second goal of the game and the 12th of the season at 13:30. Brenna Weber and Bergeron received assists on the play that was the last goal of the period, as the Lakers trailed 4-2.
 
Plattsburgh registered its fourth power-play goal at 3:56 to go ahead 5-2 after a Megan DiJulio goal. The Cardinals tacked on their final goal of the game with 1:11 remaining as Gove scored an unassisted short-handed goal. 
 
Oswego State's Emi Williams compiled 42 saves, including 20 in the second period, to suffer the loss in goal. Mandy Mackrell earned the win by registering 12 saves.

The Lakers host Buffalo State in a two-game series starting on Friday, Feb. 4 for their Pink the Rink at 7 p.m. at the Campus Center Ice Arena.
