Special teams accounted for two of the three goals scored by the second-ranked Oswego State men's ice hockey team as the Lakers defeated Curry 3-0 Saturday at the Campus Center Arena.  Oswego State registered a power-play and a short-handed goal during a three-goal second period to improve to 15-2-0 on the season.  Curry dropped to 5-5-2 overall.

A Colonel penalty midway through the second period led to the game's first goal by Luke Moodie.  #Stephen Mallaro# received the puck at the blue line before sending it to Ian Boots at the left point.  Boots laced a pass to Moodie, who was waiting at the right face-off circle.  Moodie put two shots on goal before the third shot was lifted above Curry goaltender Robert Dawson at the 10:58 mark.

Minutes later, the Lakers created an odd-man rush when Andrew Mather sent the puck ahead to Boots, who carried it into the offensive zone.  He appeared as if he was going to pass cross-ice, but took a shot that got past Dawson to double Oswego State's lead to 2-0.

Shortly after the goal, Oswego State was whistled for a boarding penalty giving the Colonels their second power play opportunity of the night.  Ryan Warhofsky took a slap shot from the center of the blue line, but it was blocked by Dan Bremner.  The puck was corralled by Owen Kelly, who pushed the puck ahead to Bremner as he got behind Warhofsky.  Bremner skated in for the short-handed goal, but was taken down by a defender.  He managed to send the puck through the crease to Kelly, who tapped in the puck for the score at 16:12, giving the Lakers a 3-0 advantage.

It would be all the scoring Oswego State would need as the defense limited Curry to 17 shots on goal.  Andrew Hare recorded his first win as a Lakers en route to Oswego State's fourth shutout of the season.  Dawson finished the game with 40 saves.

The Lakers now have nearly two weeks off before returning to conference play when they travel to Buffalo State to face the Bengals on Friday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
