FREDONIA, N.Y. – Andrew Mather (Sr., Ottawa, Ont.) and Luke Moodie (So., Oakville, Ont.) scored first-period goals to give the Oswego State men's ice hockey team an early lift en route to a 4-1 win at Steele Hall on Friday.  The No. 2-Lakers controlled play throughout the majority of the game, as they out-shot the Blue Devils by a 41-17 margin.  Oswego State, which moved to 6-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the league, will face Buffalo State Saturday at 7 p.m.  Fredonia looks to improve on its 4-3-1 overall and 2-3-1 against Cortland.

Mather lit the lamp first for the Lakers at 7:24 in the first stanza on a power-play opportunity following a Fredonia checking from behind penalty with assists going to Ian Boots (Sr., Akwesasne, N.Y.) and Tyler Leimbrock (Jr., Bolton, Ont.).  Less than three minutes later, Moodie doubled the lead with the eventual game-winning goal, as Paul Rodrigues (Jr., Etobicoke, Ont.) and Zack Josepher (Jr., Wantagh, N.Y.) received assists on the play.

Both squads were kept at bay until 14:32 in the second period when Chris Muise (Jr., Oakville, Ont.) notched his third goal of the season to put Oswego State ahead, 3-0.  Matt Singleton (Jr., Whitby, Ont.) and Tim Carr (Jr., Burlington, Ont.) were credited with the assists.

The Lakers took a 4-0 lead following a goal by Boots less than five minutes into the third period with helpers going to Kyle Badham (So., Oakville, Ont.) and Leimbrock, prompting the Blue Devils to pull starting goaltender Mark Friesen for Jeff Holloway.  Friesen made 34 saves in 44:50.  Fredonia ended the shutout bid midway through the third period when Mike Muhs recorded a power-play goal, but the Blue Devils would get no closer.

Oswego State goalie Andrew Hare (Jr., Burlington, Ont.) improved to 5-1-1 on the season by making 16 saves, including nine in the first period.  Holloway finished with three stops.

Special teams played a factor in the contest as both squads combined to be whistled for 12 penalties equaling 54 minutes.  The Lakers went 1-for-6 with the extra skater, while Fredonia was 1-for-5.
