Men's Hockey Offense Breaks Out In 7-1 Win Over Brockport

Box Score

The No. 1-Oswego State men's ice hockey offense erupted for seven goals as the Lakers outshot Brockport, 54-19, en route to a 7-1 win on Friday night in front of the home crowd at the Campus Center Ice Arena.  Ian Boots and Paul Rodrigues recorded two goals and an assist each in the victory that pushed Oswego State to 21-3-0 overall and 14-1-0 in the SUNYAC.  The Golden Eagles dropped to 4-17-3 overall and 2-12-1 in the league.

Brendan Rothfuss gave Brockport a 1-0 lead 2:43 into the game, but Oswego State capitalized on a pair of Golden Eagle penalties to get back into the contest.  Boots started the Laker scoring 29 seconds into a Brockport tripping penalty after receiving a pass from Stephen Mallaro and Andrew Mather.  Shortly after the goal, Matt Singleton posted the eventual game-winner on another Oswego State power play as Luke Moodie and Rodrigues were credited with assists.  The scoring did not stop, though, as Rodrigues netted the Lakers' third goal of the frame at 15:53 with helpers going to Jon Whitelaw and Moodie.

The second period featured back-and-forth action until Rodrigues lit the lamp for his second goal of the game with 3:56 remaining in the stanza to give Oswego State a 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The Lakers added three more goals in the third period off the sticks of Owen Kelly, Boots, and Chris Laganiere to close out the game.

Oswego State finished the game 3-for-8 with the extra attacker, while Brockport went 0-for-4.  Laker goalie Paul Beckwith improved to 17-1-0 on the season after stopping 18 shots.  Joe Reagan recorded 45 saves in 58:26 with Jeremy Rossignolo making two stops in the final 1:34.

The Lakers conclude the regular season tomorrow when they face Geneseo at 7 p.m. in Oswego as they recognize this year's seven seniors.
