RESULTS
Oswego, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's and women's swimming and diving teams each won against Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon as the two teams celebrated Senior Day. Oswego's women's squad won 150-31 while its men took the victory 158-123.
On the women's side, senior Katie Flood helped win the 200-yard medley relay with teammates Kaela Russo, Sabia Filiaci and Emily Doe with a time of 1:56.71 to earn 11 team points. Flood also earned individual recognition in the 100-yard breaststroke, winning with a 1:10.24 time, more than three seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She then took the 200-yard breaststroke, doubling the duration of the race as well as the size of her advantage at seven seconds.
Filiaci also won an individual event, taking the 50-yard freestyle at 25.96 to gain nine team points. Filiaci finished second to Doe in the 100-yard freestyle, collecting a combined 13 points for the Lakers. She finished the day with a win in the 100-yard butterfly, two seconds faster than her next closest swimmer.
In the 1000-yard freestyle, another senior shined as Laurie Jackson took first place (11:27.65) while classmate Kasey Simmons took second (11:38.79). Jackson also took the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:38.54.
It was a senior affair as Ashley Rode took the medal in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.28.
On the diving side for the women, Kathryn McKinney took first in 1-meter diving while senior Samantha Moss took second. Just .15 behind her teammate.
For the men, senior Andrew Minnick took first in the 1000-yard freestyle while classmate Matt Pamlanye took the top spot in the 100-yard freestyle. Tom Schmid got in on the action for the senior class, taking first in the 200-yard freestyle.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Logan Killian, Jacob Mullett, Thomas Kearney and Pasha Rusakov took first for Oswego with a 1:42.56 time. Killian added an individual nod with a 56.70 finish for first in the 100-yard backstroke as did Mullet in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.86).
Dylan Tiefenthaler took first for the Lakers in the 100-yard breaststroke before James Pope added a win in the 200-yard butterfly. Austin Nau also grabbed a victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.67.
Oswego's final victory came in the 1-meter dive as Ben Hale earned 281.30 points for the win with more than a 21 point cushion.
The Lakers will be back in action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Cortland.
