OSWEGO, N.Y. - Oswego State men's tennis captured its first win of the fall season, downing Utica College 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Oswego's Romney Tennis Courts. The team now moves to .500 (1-1) on the year.
The team came out hot, winning both of its doubles matches.
Alex McCarthy and
Brian Lyudemer defeated their opponents 8-1, while Tim Van Hine Jr. and
Spencer Thorn took down the Pioneer's second doubles squad with the same score.
The story line continued in singles. McCarthy repeated his last outing at first singles, this time winning by a score of 6-3, 6-1. At third was Thorn who defeated Utica's Dominick Trimachi 6-0, 6-2 and Van Hine took fourth singles in straight sets as well, 6-2, 6-1. Freshman
Kyle Zeller at fifth rounded out singles and secured his first win as a Laker beating the Pioneer's Eddie Levine 6-0, 6-0.
Oswego's last two points came by forfeit as Utica was unable to field a third doubles or sixth singles.
Men's tennis will be back in action at 12 p.m. on Sunday for a dual match against Alfred at home.
