Morrisville, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's hockey team score four unanswered goals to comeback and beat Morrisville St. 5-3 in a SUNYAC contest Saturday night. With the win, the Lakers move to 15-4-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the SUNYAC while Morrisville falls to 5-15-2, 2-11-1.
Alex Botten scored a power-play goal directly off a faceoff at the 6:55 mark of the final period to give Oswego its first lead of the game at 4-3. Botten's fifth goal of the season was the eventual game-winner and came in unassisted fashion. Six minutes later, the Lakers pushed the lead to 5-3 when
Brandon Adams scored his eighth goal of the season for insurance at 12:50. He was assisted by
David Titanic.
Kenny Neil scored the equalizer less than a minute into the third period on an assist from
Matt Galati, tying the game at 3-3. It was Neil's 12th goal of the season and was scored at the end of a power-play that carried over from the second period.
In the first period, Morrisville got off to a quick start scoring just 28 seconds into the game on a goal by Jordan Carvalho, assisted by Joe Santino and Marc-Antoine Chaput.
Oswego scored on a Titanic goal at 10:46 after Morrisville was whistled for a five-minute major, tying the game at 1-1. Titanic scored his seventh of the season with assists from
Nick Rivait and
Mike Montagna.
At the 14:22 mark, Oswego took a five-minute major for boarding. Morrisville capitalized on the penalty as Matt Beer scored unassisted with 2:51 left in the period to make it a 2-1 Mustang advantage.
Morrisville killed off three Oswego power-plays at the beginning of the second period and that momentum led to the Mustangs extending the lead to 3-1 at the 10:16 mark.
Oswego would fight back five minutes later on a goal by
Shawn Hulshof at 16:33. Hulshof's seventh goal of the season was assisted by
Alex Botten. Oswego had a 30-10 overall shot advantage over Morrisville by the end of the period.
Oswego went three for seven (.429) on the power play and outshot Morrisville by a huge 50-22 margin, both well above their season averages (.274 and 37.5 S/G).
Oswego returns to the ice this at 7 p.m. on Friday at home against Geneseo for Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night at the Campus Center Arena.
