Late Surge by Geneseo Ruins Oswego's Bid for SUNYAC Win

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Oswego State men's lacrosse led through three quarters but took a tough 10-9 loss at Geneseo on Saturday afternoon. Oswego's loss drops its overall record to 6-7 and 0-4 in SUNYAC play while the Knights improve to 4-7, 2-2.

Dylan DiFante scored the Lakers first goal of the game to knot the score at 1-1 with 7:56 to play in the first quarter. Brady Hoose then gave Oswego a 2-1 lead on a man-up goal from Torry Whitcher at 4:23.

Geneseo then scored the game's next four goals to grab a 5-2 lead but Oswego would narrow the advantage before half. The Lakers capitalized on yet another Knights penalty, as Matt Palmer notched a score at 3:13 off a Nick Giampaolo assist. With 33 seconds remaining before the half, DJ Sellick tallied his sixth goal of the season to bring the Lakers to within one at 5-4 at the break.

Giampaolo made it three-straight Laker goals at 14:00 of the third quarter to knot the game at 5-5. The Knights then scored back-to-back goals to retake the lead at 7-5 with 12:51 left in the third.

Oswego generated yet another three-goal spurt, including two goals from Palmer and one from Giampaolo, over the next eight minutes to regain a Laker edge at 8-7 heading into the final 15 minutes. Geneseo answered with three of its own goals to take a 10-8 lead. Giampaolo tallied his third goal of the game with 2:48 to play to bring the Lakers back within one at 10-9.

Troy Crevier won the next faceoff for Oswego and Palmer was able to get off a shot that went wide. The Lakers then turned the ball over and was unable to regain possession before time ran out.

Wyatt Russo made nine saves in the loss while Crevier won 12-of-23 faceoffs.

Oswego outshot the Knights 34-25 over the 60 minutes and was nearly perfect on the clear (15-for-16).

The Lakers will return to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Potsdam in their final home game of the season.
