OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The nationally-ranked Oswego State women's and men's ice hockey teams are raising money for ovarian cancer awareness during their annual "TEAL GATE" home games at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Friday, respectively. Oswego's No. 9/10 women's team will face Potsdam while the third-ranked men's team will host Cortland.
Both teams have been sporting teal shirts every Tuesday to bring awareness of ovarian cancer and now they will sport their unique teal jerseys on the ice of each game. Fans are also encouraged to wear teal clothing for the game, in an effort to Teal-Out the Marano Campus Center Arena.
The Lakers plan to sell a game jersey through a raffle – $20 a chance – and only 50 chances will be sold.
Beginning when doors open for the game, fans will be able to buy a raffle ticket – cash only –  with the winner being announced during the third period. There will be no a limit on the number of raffle tickets an individual can purchase, however, the number of raffle tickets available will be limited to the aforementioned 50. Â
The teal jersey will be delivered to the winner by the men's number-one star after the night game. Proceeds from the raffle will be collected by the Hope for Heather Foundation and donated to the Hope for Heather Organization. The Lakers also plan to honor ovarian cancer survivors and those battling the disease during ceremonies throughout the two games.
"We're extremely excited for another special "TEAL GATE" night," said men's ice hockey coach
Ed Gosek. "We are honored to be able to give back to ovarian cancer research, year-after-year."
