ALLEGHE, Italy – The Oswego State men's ice hockey team completed the sweep of its European foes with an impressive victory over Alleghe of the Italian Hockey League (IHL) in the Dolomite Mountains in front of 1,250 passionate fans.
THE BASICS
- Result: Oswego 8, Alleghe 2
- Location: Alleghe Ice Palace – Alleghe, Italy
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Max Novick opened the scoring just three minutes into the action, benefitting from solid work in the corner by Mitch Emerson.
- Alleghe knotted the game on a power-play opportunity in the latter half of the opening period. It was the first – and only – goal the Laker penalty-kill unit surrendered overseas, finishing Tuesday 3-for-4.
- Oswego quickly regained the lead, as Emerson found the back of the net just one minute later. It was an advantage the Lakers would not relinquish the rest of the tilt.
- Early in the middle period, Derek Brown completed a nice backhand, top-shelf goal after a transition feed from Travis Broughman.
- The Lakers posted two more tallies in the second to make it 5-1 at the final intermission, capped by Joseph Molinaro's unassisted effort.
- After Alleghe scored its second of the game, Oswego pushed its margin back to four with Brown's tally as Michael Gillespie played the puck right off his teammate's stick.
- Anthony Passero and Josh Zizek used a sweet give-and-go for the Lakers' seventh goal, cashed in by Passero. Jody Sullivan was also in on the play with an assist.
- Oswego tacked on one more goal in the second half of the final period to arrive at the 8-2 result.
- Steven Kozikoski started in the crease for the Lakers, making eight saves with his only goal allowed coming when the Lakers were a man down.
- Senior David Richer held down the goal in the second, stopping seven shots while blanking Alleghe.
- Classmate Cedric Hansen was between the pipes for the final 20 minutes, turning away a team-high nine Alleghe shots on-goal while giving up just one score.

Oswego's final three days in Europe will be spent wandering Rome, viewing sights such as Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, the Ruins, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and the Colosseum. On Aug. 18, the Lakers will board a plane to return to the States. The squad's games in the U.S. start by hosting an exhibition against Carleton Place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. The regular season is set to begin on the first day of November with Cortland at home – which is also the beginning of conference action.
