OSWEGO, N.Y. – Oswego State graduate to officiate Winter Olympics. Kendall Hanley, an '09 Oswego State alum and a two-year participant of the Women's Ice Hockey team is set to officiate the Women's Ice Hockey Olympic tournament in Bejiing China starting Feb. 3.
Kendall Hanley, a 2009 Oswego State graduate and former Lakers women's ice hockey player, has made a huge impact in the ice hockey world over the past decade – which will continue as she is now set to officiate at the 2022 Winter Olympics this February in Beijing, China.
Hanley has officiated games at the local, national and professional level including the American Hockey League (AHL) and International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), and earned the 2021 Ben Allison Award, given annually to an official in the USA Hockey Officiating Developmental Program.
"The award is voted on by 150 members of the USA Hockey Officiating Development Program and given to the official who best represents the characteristics that made Ben a special person and official, including always giving 100 percent on the ice and representing USA Hockey in the finest manner," Ross Forman of the AHIA News said in describing the award.
Hanley continues her impact on the sport of ice hockey by breaking barriers for women this year in the AHL, along with officiating at the 2021 NHL Prospect Showcase in Tampa Bay.
"I am so honored to have the opportunity to join the other twenty-one women who have been selected to officiate at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic games," Hanley said. "Many of us have been working toward this goal for well over a decade, have become lifelong friends, and it is a dream come true for all of us to be chosen, and for all that hard work to pay off."
The whole family looks forward to seeing Hanley on the Olympic stage officiating making Oswego State and Laker athletics proud.
