OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women's ice hockey team returns to home ice this Friday at 3 p.m. for a NorthEast Women's Hockey League (NEWHL) matchup with SUNY Canton. The contest will feature Pride Night, which involves the Lakers promoting the inclusion and participation in sports by LGBTQ athletes. Fans are encouraged to wear rainbow or tie-dye apparel to show their support.
This will be the first of three meetings between Oswego and Canton this year and the teams will play the following day in Canton. The Lakers hold a 7-0 all-time series record with the 'Roos, but each of the last three contests have been 2-1 wins for Oswego.
SUNY Canton enters the game with a 12-3-1 overall record and a 6-3-1 NEWHL mark that has them tied with the Lakers for third place in the conference standings. In their last outing, they fell to Potsdam by a 4-2 score and they play No. 2 Plattsburgh at 7 p.m. this evening.
The team averages 4.3 goals per contest and their 68 goals has them tied for ninth nationally. Their scoring margin of 2.75 also has them sitting in ninth nationally. Individually, three players are tied for the team lead in points with 18. Sophomore Lida Laitinen has 11 goals and seven assists, junior Sarah Kosnaskie has eight goals and 10 assists and senior Micayla MacIntyre has seven goals and 11 assists. In net, Sirena Alvarez ranks in the top-20 nationally with her 1.44 goals-against-average.
The Lakers come into the contest with a 9-7-1 overall mark and a 6-4-1 conference record. In their last outing, they defeated Morrisville State by a 2-1 margin on home ice last Friday.
As a team, Oswego scores 2.9 goals per contest on 37.6 shots. Oswego's power play conversion percentage (.279) ranks eighth nationally and the team is tenth in faceoff win percentage (.576). Junior
