OSWEGO, NY – On Monday night SUNY Oswego athletics held their second annual Ozcar's Award Show where we reflect and celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of this great institution's student-athletes. The evening's emcee was Dominic Perrone of WTOP, WNYO.
This year has brought about an unprecedented amount of success and memorable moments. Dozens of athletes achieved all-conference recognition, regional recognition, NCAA All-American status, and many more achievements. Not only did the Lakers achieve new heights on the playing field, but they also excelled in the classroom and were a prominent presence in the Oswego community. Our athletics department last fall semester averaged a 3.18 GPA with several athletes making the Dean's List or President's List.

In that race, with a time of 22:27.8 over a 6000-meter race, she broke a 21-year long school record in the event.
In the Indoor Track and Field season, she reached even higher heights! She became the SUNYAC Champion in the 800-meter race and was Oswego's first individual champion in almost 10 years. Her time of 2:16.15 in the event puts her second all-time in school history.
Male Sport Athlete of the Year
Charlie Grygas, Men's Wrestling
Charlie Grygas is, as previously stated, the greatest wrestler in Oswego program history. He ends his 4-year run at Oswego with 3 All-American Honors, including finishing 5th at this year's NCAA Wrestling Championship meet at the 174-pound division, a 4x SUNYAC Champion including this year's SUNYAC Wrestler of the Year, and a 3x New York State Champion. This year alone, he had a 38-5 record which helped finalize his career record at 128 wins and only 19 losses. This unparalleled resume and fantastic senior year stamped him as the 2024 Male Sport Athlete of the Year.
Oswego State Award of Excellence
Baseball
The Men's Baseball team partnered with Team Impact to change the life of a special young boy. Cameron McKinney is a 5-year-old boy with cerebral palsy, who was assured that he gets to experience what it means to be a Laker thanks to the Men's Baseball team. Their impact has gone beyond the diamond as they cultivate special events with Cameron as the star such as signing days, clinics, and many more. His presence serves as a huge boost for the team, and they are grateful to Cameron McKinney and his family.
