Oswego State Athletics Hall of Fame
The 1965 men's wrestling team delivered one of the most dominant seasons Oswego has ever seen. With an incredible 11-1 record, the Lakers outscored their opponents 316-90 and posted a team mark of 80-21-5, the best in program history. They took home the SUNYAC Championship with individual titles in seven weight classes: Frank Frisicano (123), Harry Furrer (130), Brian Jones (137), Dick Shiel (147), Bob Williams (157), Tom Gustainis (167), and Terry Ryan (177). Bill Cousins and Carl Reistrom added second- and third-place finishes. Three wrestlers—Furrer, Jones, and Williams—qualified for the NCAA Championships, with Furrer winning his third title and several others collecting their second. Their remarkable depth and dominance make them one of the most legendary teams in Oswego wrestling history.
